Racial Experiences As Expressed Through A Comedian's Humor
Version 1

This was the first iteration of a unique essay that I was tasked with writing. The scope of this essay was to examine a comedian who offers some form of take on race by using their primary medium; comedy. I chose to do a bit of research and ultimately write on one of my favorite comedians, the late Bernie Mac. This essay offers a bit of background dialogue on some of the potential environmental factors that contributed to the content of Mac’s act.

Editor Input

Similar to the procedure for my prior essay, I sought out the feedback of two classmates on my initial draft. For this narrative, I collaborated with Sabrina E. and Aleiya H. whose peer review memos are shown above. Further, like my other narrative entries I was able to gain great insight from my professor, however I was unable to include the feedback video due to Squarespace content limitations. I would like to offer my thanks to all contributors for this analysis.

The primary feedback that I received was to work on the overall clarity of the essay and specifically how I went about transcribing the target portion of Bernie Mac’s performance. I received similar feedback from my editor from the Kent State University Writing Commons. Likewise it was suggested that I further work on my in-text citations.
